Welcome to Our Site

Scientists in the Ecology and Biodiversity Lab study plants, animals and microbes to discover the ecology and evolution of our planet.

The Ecology and Biodiversity Lab at the Department of Biological Sciences (University of Cyprus), aims to promote research and education on several aspects of biodiversity and ecology, mainly focusing on the eastern Mediterranean region. We are interested also in developing a dynamic database on the fauna of Cyprus, as a service to both researchers and the general public. Most research projects in our lab fall within the fields of island biogeography, community assembly, evolutionary ecology, phylogeography and systematics. Even though we are mostly concerned with terrestrial biota and ecosystems, the scope of the lab is by no means restricted to them. In addition to basic research, we are also interested in conservation issues and the management of habitats and biodiversity components.
